Welcome to 'Art That Blows', or should I say 'used to blow'. Art That Blows is
a form of neon art I create in my Milwaukee studio, out of 'retired' (used) musical instruments mixed with Italian Glass neon lighting and airbrushing. Each neon sculpture is custom made and dedicated to a legend of the mainstream jazz era. The outcome is simply amazing neon art.
I start with real musical instruments and strip them down (all keys and valves removed), I then draw patterns on the body and keys where I plasma cut areas out, that will let the neon light show through. After sandblasting and painting the body and removed parts with enamel, the cut out areas are sprayed with multiple colors of acrylic paint, to bring out the design. The neon lighting is then formed to fit the instrument. A base is fabricated out of brushed aluminum, and the piece is a complete neon work of art.
